Late Victorian 3 Graces Shell Cameo This late Victorian cameo is one gorgeous highly detailed hand-carved version of the Three Graces in all their glory. The carving is superb on this piece from detailing in the skirt to the floral tiara and the scarf swirling overhead, truly a delight. [The photo is on the dark side because to lighten it would eliminate the detail. The color of the background is a soft amber and the sisters are a light cream color.] This large oval arced cameo is set in a silver frame with tube hinge and safety catch on the closure. Many people mistakenly associate these three mythological figures with the Christian concept of Faith, Hope and Charity. But the correct concept of this lyrical cameo, the "Three Graces", is of the Greek interpretation of Aglaia (Splendor), Euphrosyne (Mirth), and Thalia (Good Cheer). height: 2-3/4", width: 2-1/4" |
