28894 Victorian Mourning Jewelry Memorial Hair Brooch Antique 1840 to 1860 Gold Filled Black Enamel. Original 1840 to 1860s gold filled mourning brooch with a center engraved bezel set crystal over braided plaited brown hair surrounded by black enameling overlapped with an exquisite Rococo gilt metal scrolled frame. Pin stem extends slightly beyond the brooch with period correct tube hinge and C clasp closure. Both pin stem and antique C clasp are in good working order. There appears to be dust under the crystal. This is only visible under magnification. The hair itself is in excellent condition. Slight surface scratches to the crystal. Considerable wear to gold on back. This does not effect the wearability or appearance of this Victorian mourning brooch when worn. May be worn as a brooch or as a necklace with a chain, not included.
